Care Co-ordinator

Mon-Tues (12:00-16:00), Wed (09:00-15:30)

Our Care Co-ordinator enables patients and their carers to access support in the community and also helps to promote health and wellbeing. Please contact Reception and ask for the Care Co-ordinator.

Childhood Immunisations

Wednesdays in Balcombe (11:00-12:30), Thursdays in Handcross (10:30-12:00)

A card will be sent to parents informing them when immunisations are due. If you have recently moved or feel your child is overdue for immunisation, please contact the surgery.

Family Planning

Doctors are happy to discuss all forms of family planning and are able to provide most forms, including coil fitting. Nurses provide follow-up appointments.

Cervical Screening Services

Book in via reception for cervical screening with one of our nurses. Follow up letters will be sent out to patients who have not attended and are overdue for appointments.

Flu vaccinations

It is important that “at risk” patients receive an annual flu immunisation. Clinics are held in October/ November each year. Pneumoccocal vaccinations are offered to patients over 75 years.

Diabetic Clinics

We have a specialist nurse who looks after our patients with diabetes.  Please ensure you ask for Clare when making one of these appointments. .

Travel Clinic

Travel Questionnaire

If you are due to travel abroad and need advice and/or administration of vaccinations, please call the surgery to book an appointment with one of our nurses. This should be done at least 6 weeks before you travel so that there is time to order the vaccines and for the vaccines to take effect. We are offering NHS vaccines only at this time. If others are required, we will advise where these can be done privately.

Prescription Charges

Some travel vaccines will incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore a charge will apply. Examples include the following:

• Medicals for pre-employment and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
• Insurance claim forms  
• To Whom It May Concern letters
• Private sick notes
• Vaccination certificates
• Firearms licencing*

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
 

*There has recently been a change in the process required for the application of firearms certificate.  It is best not to send your application to the police until the medical proforma is completed and can be sent accompanying the application.  The Practice may complete Medical Proformas in relation to an application for a shotgun/firearms licence or renewal of a licence, for which the fee is £35.00 plus VAT.  However the individual doctor may make the decision to decline this private service to prioritise NHS work.  If licence holders are members of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) they can ring 01244 573010 for further advice.  Alternatively you could contact MedCert (www.medcert.co.uk).

Dentist

Mon-Sat (08:30-13:00, 14:00-17:00)

Dumbledore Dental Care is an NHS dental practice operating within Dumbledore Primary Care Centre. The lists are open for both NHS and private patients.

The reception area for dentistry patients is situated at the far end of the surgery reception desk.

Dermatology

Alternate Thursdays (09:00-17:00)

Sussex Community Dermatology Service (SCDS) is a community-based service for patients with skin problems. The aim of the service is to improve patient access to specialists and to reduce hospital waiting lists by seeing patients with a wide-range of skin problems for diagnosis and treatment in a community setting within six weeks of their referral. The service is part of a new government initiative to provide patients with Care Closer to Home, and was commissioned by West Sussex Primary Care Trust.

Tuesdays (09:00-16:00)

Antenatal clinics are held at Handcross Surgery. Before booking an appointment with the midwife, please complete a self-referral form here.

Wellbeing Clinic

Friday (09:00-17:00)

Mid Sussex Wellbeing are at Ouse Valley Practice every Friday to help you make the changes you want to make. A 45 minute appointment for you to discuss, in a confidential and non-judgemental environment, your health and wellbeing needs. The Wellbeing Advisor will be able to support you towards the goals you want to achieve and motivate you towards success.
